The Twelfth Sunday after Trinity: Affliction

Healing the Deaf Mute
Jesus cures a deaf man with a speech impediment by first putting his fingers in the man’s ears, then spitting and touching the man’s tongue while looking up into heaven and saying, “Be opened,” based on Mark 7:31-37. From Martin Luther’s Church Postils (sermons), published in 1563.
